A seasoned health professional, O’Connor began his career as a registered nurse and paramedic, before working in the private sector in medical devices, home care health services delivery and Health IT. He brings 19 years of public and private sector leadership experience to AC. He holds a Masters of Nursing and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (MScN/ACNP) from the University of Toronto and a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Fredericton.

O’Connor has also volunteered, being a member of the Quality and Safety Board Committee for the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) for the last four years.

O’Connor notes that he was drawn to AC and its affiliate Health Standards Organization (HSO) by CEO Leslee Thompson’s bold ambition, which seeks to unleash the power and potential of people around the world who share our passion for achieving quality health services for all.

He notes that throughout his career, he’s been drawn to organizations that focus on quality and patient safety. “The organization’s People Powered Health strategy really spiked my interest,” O’Connor says. “It is motivational and inspiring.”

From incorporating patients into accreditation surveyor teams to including patients on Technical Committees that review HSO’s standards, to offering unique solutions that help organizations focus on people-centred care, AC and HSO are working together to put people first. This is the People Powered Health philosophy.

In his new role, O’Connor says he is looking forward to strengthening and building AC’s market presence.

“It’s not every day that you get to collaborate with world-class leaders to co-design and implement world-class accreditation programs and tools to ensure better quality with and for Canadians,” he says.

“Canadian Accreditation (CA) is very much looking forward to welcoming Etienne and having him become an integral part of our journey to be the assessment service provider of choice,” says Asmita Gillani, Executive Director, Canadian Accreditation at AC. “He brings an excellent nursing background combined with entrepreneurship experience and a passion for quality to AC.”
