Accreditation Canada and the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare Announce Strategic Partnership
January 17, 2019
OTTAWA & TORONTO – January 17, 2019 — Accreditation Canada (AC) and the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH) today announced they have formed a strategic partnership. The goal of the partnership is to improve the quality of health care by combining the forces of two leading providers of accreditation services in Canada. This partnership will enable the provision of a comprehensive range of services and form the basis for integration of diagnostic accreditation to broader health system accreditation. This will make it easier for health care providers to integrate their diagnostic processes to the broader health system accreditation processes and benefit the patient through their journey on the continuum of care.
“This is an exciting opportunity in IQMH’s journey to expand the impact on the quality of diagnostic services by partnering with a pan Canadian accreditation body which already has a large footprint in Canada and globally”, said Jeff Sumner, Chief Executive Officer, IQMH.
“As part of our strategic ambition to improve the quality of health services for all, we are committed to creating real value for our clients in all aspects of design, delivery, and accreditation of their services by streamlining their internal processes”, said Leslee Thompson, Chief Executive Officer, Accreditation Canada.
With this announcement, AC and IQMH will be uniquely positioned to provide an integrated solution to improve the quality of health care by providing value-adding third-party accreditation, proficiency testing, standard development and education for organizations in Canada and internationally.
IQMH was started in 1974 as a proficiency testing program, known as the Laboratory Proficiency Testing Program (LPTP). IQMH has played a crucial role in the ISO 15189 accreditation of medical laboratories in Ontario, and more recently across the country. It has grown to become Canada’s largest provider of medical laboratory accreditation and proficiency testing. Formed in 1958, Accreditation Canada is Canada’s leading health care and social services accrediting body with clients ranging from small community care organizations to large hospitals and health systems.
